Slater?s wrestling career began in 1968 in Florida and then settled in Georgia Championship Wrestling for 11 years before working in Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling. He also spent a year in the World Wrestling Federation in the 1980?s.
His career began to wind down in the 1990?s as he got one last significant run as Bunkhouse Buck?s tag team partner in WCW. Sadly, things took a turn for the worse in his personal life. In 2004, he was convicted of attacking his ex-girlfriend with a butcher knife and was sentenced to a year of house arrest and two-year probation. At the time, he blamed the incident o his use of painkillers due to his back issues. In 2015, Ric Flair noted on his podcast that Slater had been living in a nursing home in the Clearwater, Florida area.
Slater was 67 years old.
