Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com recently commented on AJ Styles' status with WWE. Here is what Johnson said courtesy of RingsideNews.com:
“AJ’s deal is up in April and traditionally when someone’s deal is coming due they’re not really featured in a major way in a pay-per-view. Although there are exceptions to that. Jeff Hardy being against CM Punk a few years ago and things of that nature and Punk against John Cena where Punk could have left. So there are exceptions to the rule, it’s not a hard-rule.”
“But one would think WWE will start to downplay him a little bit if they don’t lock him into a longer-term deal. Those discussions are on-going now so we’ll see what happens.”
Johnson also speculated on EC3's status with WWE and when he'll be called up to the main roster:
“Obviously they announced Lars Sullivan. I always hear EC3 is kinda on the precipice of an eventual call-up. I still believe and nobody has told me this outright. But I’m under the impression that had he not gotten the concussion SummerSlam weekend, he probably would have been brought up right around SummerSlam time. Now they’ve gotta wait until they figure out a spot for him. That’s kinda the impression I got.”
“It all has to do with when Vince is ready for somebody and whether Triple H is ready to let them go or not. So you can’t rush everyone up at once. I really think the entire makeup of NXT is going to change in the upcoming year as there is more talk of international satellite versions of that company showing up.”
