Ethiopia: Tourists killed
At least five European tourists kidnapped at gunpoint have been killed, stated the Ethiopian government on Jan. 18. They were part of a group of 27 foreigners—including two Americans—who were the target of an ambush in a remote corner of Ethiopia. The region of Afar, in which the attack occurred, has been described as containing some of the world’s most inhospitable terrain, and is a hideaway for bandits and rebel groups.
