Incredible... What a sight!!!

The black hole itself is enormous, potentially four times the size of the one at the center of the Milky Way, according to NASA. Even more incredibly, the massive hole seems to be shooting matter out of its center at 80 to 90 percent of the speed of light.

I can only imagine the impact if it hits anything!!!

I had to watch the video a few times to fully grasp what happened to that star. I've never heard of this happening.

wow, what a force...........to suck up a star like that

That was pretty cool. I wonder what is on the inside of a black hole?

A black hole is the remnants of a dead star more massive than our sun. It drew in that star because of its intense field of gravity. Reach the event horizon at its edge and there is no escape and anything that enters is instantly destroyed. That being said, I prefer to keep that thought as far from my mind as possible. Pretty scary thought.

From what I understand matter can't be destroyed though

I think it's energy that can't be destroyed. I'll do my research though because you may be right about that as well.

I think it can be transformed

The law of Conservation of Energy states energy cannot be created or destroyed...how it got here, I don't know, but I learned it in chemistry lol... I could be wrong though I am failing the class lol.

I just looked it up. Both me and Oldschool were right. Now I know both matter and energy can be converted. But what I meant by whatever entering a black hole is destroyed is whatever is made up of the matter (i.e. a space shuttle or a satellite) is destroyed, not the matter itself. I guess I should have been more specific and said whatever object enters a black hole is instantly destroyed. lol

it's like food, it goes in the mouth and is transformed and comes out in a different form [albet sometimes a smelly one at that.......LOL]

I wonder what comes out of a black hole!!!

and where it comes out!

NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center explains why matter and X-rays are shooting out of the black hole:

As a star falls toward a black hole, it is ripped apart by intense tides. The gas is corralled into a disk that swirls around the black hole and becomes rapidly heated to temperatures of millions of degrees.

It says that apparently there are X-rays being emitted as well as matter being spewed out at 80-90% the speed of light.

It's sorta like someone losing their lunch only much faster. lol

and the lunch is on a galactic scale
