It was unprecedented. Never before has Congress stripped federal protections for a single species. But last year, they did just that -- and it paved the way for hundreds of wolves to be killed in Idaho alone.
Please write your elected officials today to remind Congress of the grave consequences of placing politics above science in wildlife management -- and to not let it happen again.

On May 5, 2011 the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service formally delisted wolves in the Northern Rockies, following a carefully placed "rider" passed by Congress in the year's budget bill. The deal was endorsed by Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and it sold out Western wolves and undermined protections under the Endangered Species Act.
The fact is, by legislatively delisting Northern Rockies wolves, Congress set a dangerous precedent of political attacks on our most vulnerable wildlife.
What's more troubling is that it could happen again. Using the same tactics, Congress could turn the fate of Wyoming's wolves over to a state plan that would allow these animals to be shot on sight throughout most of the state.
Will you send a message to your federal lawmakers now to remind them of the consequences of their actions -- and urge them to never let it happen again?
this has been a busy week for all of us, as we put pressure on elected officials that are responsible for Idaho's War on Wolves.
Already, Defenders supporters have sent nearly 70,000 messages to Idaho Governor Butch Otter and posted hundreds of photos to facebook, expressing support for these magnificent animals. Will you join us now to send 50,000 messages to lawmakers in Washington, DC?
When wolves were reintroduced in the Rocky Mountains, scientists from across the globe hailed it as one of the most important conservation victories ever seen. But since Congress's unprecedented move, it appears as though the clock is being turned back.
We can't allow this to happen again. Tell Congress that politics has no place in the management of our struggling wildlife.
