This man apparently is striving to be known as one of the most idiotic criminals ever and I firmly believe that he is in at least the top 5 with this stunt. Oh, behave!
Tempe police Sgt. Michael Pooley told ABC15 that “I've never known this to happen to an officer. I was shocked, it blew me away”.
Pooley said around 2 a.m. on Tuesday 24-year-old Ashton Powers walked up to a Tempe patrol car and slashed one of the tires.
The officer was pulled over at a corner finishing up a police report after an unrelated arrest.
Suddenly he felt a jolt and then heard a strange sound coming from his squad car.
"I don't know what this guy was thinking," Pooley said. "It's a fully marked police car, the car was running, the officer was inside with the air conditioning on and you could hear the car running. It still didn't stop him from slashing the tire."
The officer jumped out and discovered his rear passenger tire had been slashed and saw Ashton Powers walking away with a knife.
The officer caught up with Powers and asked him about it. Powers admitted he slashed the tire, telling the officer he didn't see anyone inside.
“You know this guy isn't very smart at all. It's one of those things we're going to laugh about for a while. We're going to look back and say 'I can't believe this guy did this,'" Pooley said as he shook his head.
The officer arrested Powers. He is now charged with one count of criminal damage.
