A Florida man was arrested after he lead police on a 3 county chase in a car that he had just stolen from a dealership in Ocala. Shamal Battice used a folding cane to operate the accelerator after the salesmen was locked out of the car he had helped him slide into - and then Battice just drove off.
According to the Ocala Star Banner, police were notified about the incident, and the Marion County Sheriff's Office was also called. Deputies pursued the car and abandoned the chase at the Alachua-Marion County line.
Alachua County officials then picked up the chase and followed Battice until they too decided not to follow any further.
They spotted Battice a short time later attempting to put gas in the car.....The report does not mention how he was doing this, perhaps with the cane?
Battice was arrested and charged with driving under a suspended or revoked licence. Authorities did not mention why he wasn't arrested for grand theft auto, but indicate that charge may be forthcoming.
