Kenneth Pray was awaiting his court appearance at the Collier County courthouse for burglary and decided to take a break before the proceedings started. He found his way into the municipal parking garage and promptly struck a 66 year old woman in the back of the head and made off with her Lexus SUV.

According to NaplesNews, the woman said the assailant covered her mouth and told her that he would kill her if she screamed.

The man initially told her to get in the back seat, but the woman said she ran away as he was driving off. The SUV contained the woman’s $3,000 handbag, $200 cash and a $4,000 bag of golf clubs, according to a report.

Pray was spotted a short time later driving the SUV and proceeded to lead police on a 23 mile chase which reached speeds of 120 mph, the chase ended when Pray crashed into a roadside ditch.

According to police reports, Pray told deputies he “wasn’t ready to go to prison.”

Pray was charged with carjacking, eluding law enforcement, grand theft and driving with a suspended license.
