The original idea for the main event of ROH's 13th Anniversary pay-per-view was Jay Briscoe defending the ROH World Championship against AJ Styles, but ROH had to veto this because it's expected that AJ Styles will win the IWGP Heavyweight Championship and if he does he isn't allowed to lose cleanly outside of New Japan Pro Wrestling. ROH management also worked out that the dates he would need to be available for didn't fit their schedule so they adjusted their booking and decided to do Briscoe vs. Hanson vs. Ciampa vs. Elgin, but they still plan to do Styles for the ROH World Championship down the road on pay-per-view and they know they have that in the pipeline when they want it.

Ring of Honor's TV taping in the 2300 Arena - the now refurbished ECW Arena - drew approximately 1,200 for a sell-out as people were being turned away from the door. This was ROH's second event and TV taping of the year and its second sell-out.
